Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA)

Company licensed by the FAA as manufacturer of certified aircraft parts or components




Piston Aircraft Engine

Thermal power machine that by internal combustion of fuel performs mechanical work and is used in aircraft




Production Organisation Approval (POA)

Organisation that is authorized by the aviation aothority for manufacture of products used in aviation.




Retrofit

Term generally used in aviation for replacement of an old engine with a new one




Self-ignition Pinciple

Fuel in a combustion chamber is injected with compressed and heated air and ignites on its own




Single-Fuel-For-The-Battlefield

Principle that refers to DoD Directive 4041 of DoD and provides for standardization of military fuels on a “heavy fuel” basis




Special Operations Command (SOCOM)

U.S. military unit




Supplemental Type Certification (STC)

Refers to the installation approval of an engine in an existing aircraft
